OmniSTEM ED Tutors – Tips for Making the Perfect Introduction Video

 

Introduce yourself (15–20 seconds)

Start your video by sharing the following information:

  • Share your first name ONLY (for safety and confidentiality, don’t give your surname)
  • Where you are currently located.
  • The subjects you teach. (Please only list the subject if you have a degree in it or have taught it successfully)

Focus on your skills (30–45 seconds)

Share how you will help students reach their goals and be successful:

  • Explain your qualifications, work experience, specialized training or skills that are relevant to teaching.
  • How do you prepare for your lesson?
  • The teaching method you use.
  • Share the different activities and materials you will use during lessons.
  • Say to students, in order to be prepared for each lesson, you should bring the following items to your lesson:

(List the specific requirements such as calculator, notebook, etc._

Ending (15–25 seconds)

Encourage your potential students to book a lesson with you! Thank them for watching your video. Finish the video by saying, “I look forward being your teacher. Hope to see you soon!”

To Be Selected as a Tutor, Your Videos Must Meet the Following Requirements:

  • Record in horizontal or landscape orientation
  • Record at eye level
  • Create a video between 1:00 – 1:30 minutes long
  • Record your video in a space with good lighting, a neutral background

(nothing distracting, political, or offensive should be in the background)

  • Record in a quiet place with no background noise
  • Make sure the camera doesn’t shake
  • Ensure your face is fully visible
  • Highlight your teaching skills and experience

DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR VIDEO

  • Your surname or contact details
  • Video frames, borders, backgrounds, or stickers
  • Apply filters to your video
  • Show other people in the video
  • Use slideshows, presentations or demo lessons
  • Include logos or links

REMEMBER TO:

  • Smile and be friendly. This will make your potential students feel welcome!
  • Introduce yourself to students in the language you’ll be teaching.
  • Help your potential students connect with you. Show your personality by sharing something you enjoy doing for fun like, swimming, playing a sport, reading, riding bikes, etc.  
  • Watch the video after recording it to check that you are happy with the sound and image quality, as well as the content.

How to submit your introduction video:

  1. Use your webcam or any other camera to record your video introduction. When the video is ready, upload it to YouTube. Then add the video link to the registration form. Trouble Adding Video Link? Put any downloadable link of the video into the registration form field.
  1. Don’t add OmniSTEM Tutors in your video title when you upload it.
